Dimensions of Rural Development in North-East India

B. Datta Ray (Editor) Gurudas Das (Editor)
Synopsis The North Eastern Region (NER) is predominantly rural and hilly. The topography of the region has largely shaped its economy. The development of the region is intimately associated with the question of rural development. The rural-urban dualism may essentially be seen as the product of the failure of market mechanism. State intervention in favour of the rural sector is thus seen as a sine-qua-non for rural development. This volume takes a look at the development experiences of the various sectors of the rural economy of NER. Issues like people's participation, rural industrialization, marketing, entrepreneurship, tourism, technology, cooperation, education, gender and poverty are analysed in the light of development experiences of NER. The volume deserves the attention of the researchers, policy makers and above all those who concern for the development of NER.
