Synopsis Despite the widespread movement towards democratization in most countries, women are largely under-represented at most levels of government, especially in ministerial and other executive bodies, and have made little progress in attaining political power in legislative bodies. Globally, only 10 per cent of the members of legislative bodies and a lower percentage of ministerial positions are now held by women: This book discusses the causes of the low proportion of women among economic and political decision makers at the local, national, regional and international levels and proposes strategies to overcome the structural and attitudinal barriers. This will be a valuable reference tool for scholars, activists and policy-makers in the field of women’s rights and women empowerment.
