This book focuses on the orchids of the breathtaking Sikkim Himalayan region, renowned for its natural beauty. Sikkim is home to the third-highest mountain in the world, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site that harmoniously blends nature and culture. Although it is the second smallest state in India, Sikkim is a biodiversity hotspot, showcasing one of the
highest concentrations of plant and animal life. Being the only organic state in India, it offers an exceptional environment for studying both flora and fauna.

Sikkim boasts one of the most significant orchid diversities in the Indian subcontinent. Orchids make up 10% of the state's floral diversity and account for a third of the total orchid diversity in India.In this publication, the author shares insights into the history of plant explorations in the region, outlines trekking routes to see orchids in their natural habitat, and discusses cultural practices based on 35 years of experience in growing them. He showcases 100 of the most visually striking species, including some that are rarely seen in the wild. This selection encompasses a diverse range of colours and forms, shaped by millions of years of evolution, all designed to attract pollinators.
