Arunachal Pradesh is one of India’s richest biodiversity regions, celebrated for its vast and diverse flora and fauna. It is a true haven for botanists, naturalists and conservationists. Notably, the state is home to nearly 50% of India’s orchid species—approximately 650 species—earning it the revered title of the Orchid Paradise of India, nearly 79% of Arunachal Pradesh is cloaked in forests, which support two national parks and ten wildlife sanctuaries.

Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve located in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh stands out as the largest protected area in the Eastern Himalayas. Its extraordinary biodiversity from lush tropical forests to alpine meadows provides a thriving habitat for a multitude of plant and animal species.

This book, Orchids of Namdapha National Park, is the culmination of extensive field research conducted during 2022-23. It offers a stunning photographs of 111 orchid species, showcasing their exquisite beauty and ecological significance. Beyond its scientific contribution, this book aims to raise awareness of Namdapha’s rich floral heritage and underscores the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect these delicate and extraordinary species. We sincerely hope that this work inspires a deeper appreciation for the orchid wealth of Namdapha National Park and contributes to its long-term preservation.
