Synopsis

This coffee table book titled ‘The Magic of Mangalajodi’ was released by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri. Naveen Patnaik on 21st April 2022 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This book has been published by a not-for-profit organisation, Song of the Wild (SOTW), founded by Mr. Avinash Khemka. Mangalajodi, the gem of the Chilika ecosystem, is situated on the north-eastern fringe of Chilika lake in the district of Khurda in Odisha. Every year, more than three lakhs migratory birds from different parts of the world make it their wintering home. It holds the distinction of being one of the greatest conservation stories of the world, transforming a deadly poachers’ den to a protectors’ bird paradise, which has stood the test of time for more than thirty years. Mr. Avinash Khemka, a wildlife photographer, has captured the avian diversity and landscapes in his lens, through different seasons over the last ten years in Mangalajodi. After spending more than three hundred nights and ten thousand images later, this coffee table book stands a testament for showcasing Mangalajodi’s natural beauty and its conservation story to the wider world. The author hopes, as you leaf through the pages of the book, the beauty and intensity of magical habitat of Mangalajodi will come alive and its conservation story will leave you inspired. The entire proceeds from the sale of this book will be judiciously utilized towards conservation and related efforts at Mangalajodi.
