Synopsis The present book has been an outcome of the author’s initial studies in Planned Development among the Gond tribe of Central India. This was an academically unexplored area and the tribal living there had been living in isolation till 1982. The Planned Development activities in this region accelerated after the construction of a Hindu Temple. The modernization, sanskritization, hinduization etc. process started more or less simultaneously. It would not be wrong to say that those people were getting too much (exposure) in too little a time, which was naturally affecting their economic life on the one hand and socio-cultural life on the other. This drew the interest of the author towards these people and region and present book is the outcome of the extensive fieldwork she had conducted for her pre-doctoral thesis. The shortcomings and lacunae are obvious in every work but the enthusiasm with which the work was conducted in reflected in various chapters.
