About the authors

S N Dasgupta

Surendranath Dasgupta (1885-1952) occupied a unique position in the constellation of contemporary Indian philosophers. He annexed highest academic honours from the universities of Cambridge, Rome and Calcutta. Dr. Dasgupta was a prolific writer and he wrote a number of books of perennial value. Some of them are: A Study of Patanjali, Yoga Philosophy in Relation of Other Systems of Indian Thoughts, Yoga as Philosophy and Religion, A History of Indian Philosophy, Indian Idealism, Philosophical Essays, A History of Sanskrit Literature and Religion and Rational Outlook.

Sri Jiva Gosvami

In Hari namamrta-vyakarana, Jiva Gosvami Perfected the methodology of teaching Sanskrit grammar. His treatise is clearer and more complete than Panini’s Astadhyayi, and is filled with examples centered on the Lord.

In addition, Jiva gosvami used the Lord’s names as grammatical terms, and thus reflected Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s opinion that all words and their roots are sourced in Sri Krsna.
