Synopsis
"Since independence vast strides have been made in education for women at all levels including higher education. The educational pyramid of India is a contrast with that of advanced countries. Similarly between male and female education in India the differences are equally sharp. All the movements started all over the world for improving women's status, since 19th century gave predominant position to 'education' as the most significant instrument for changing women's subjugated position in the society. Hence social reformers and leaders of women's movement demanded the expansion of educational opportunities as the most primary need for women. The spread of education made them aware of their rights and privileges in the society. Educated women served both in state as well as the home. By their untiring efforts it was proved beyond doubt that men were no longer ‘tiny’ ‘Gods’ for women and women no longer ‘dolls’ or ‘footstools’ for men. Both were equally fitted to help each other. As a result of reawakening of women, man’s unbridled supremacy became a thine of the past.â€
