Synopsis

We are Holy River Media and Events . An organization that envisions to preserve the city of its origination that is Banaras, Varanasi or Kashi as best known to you, in the form of Printed Documented Coffee Table Books. This book is an introduction to, and a glimpse into, a few festivals of Varanasi that attract more than a hundred thousand (one lakh) visitors per day. These events are known as the Lakkha Melas of Varanasi. Some of the festivals are unique to Varanasi, while others are celebrated in unique ways. Varanasi is revered as a divine spiritual entity by its inhabitants. Perhaps their reverence is not misplaced, as Varanasi is more than just a city; it is a marvellous confluence of history, legend, heritage, and spirituality. Local lore holds that this city exists beyond the limits of space and time, and, indeed, its rich traditions and philosophy have survived and thrived across millennia. Each of its festival is an immersive, fulfilling, philosophical, transcendental way of life .We strongly encourage you to participate in each festival, the ones celebrated on a small scale by a select sub-population, as well as all of the Lakkha Melas. These occasions provide interesting insights into our diverse, ancient, colourful and inclusive culture and civilization. The person who deeply understands our festivals is a little closer to understanding the enigma that is Varanasi. Fairs and Festivals are the heart and soul of Banaras. An old native proverb goes: “In Banaras, a week has seven days and nine festivals.” This, in a way, is only natural, Banaras being a cauldron of peoples of different origins, religions, trade, occupations and ethnic backgrounds. And all of these have their own festivals and occasions to celebrate. The most numerous are the Hindu festivals, but for reasons of space and other constraints, our present calendar limits itself to just a few of these festivals.
