Emotion, Expression and Aesthetics: This volume contains the papers presented at the symposium on "Emotion, Experience, Expression: Ethics and Aesthetics’, organized by the Sahitya Akademi in 2016. The papers reflect upon the power of literature and its uses, asking simultaneously, whether this power is intended to be useful in the instrumental sense. In Opening discussion on the relation of truth and authenticity to literature, we raise the question of the truth value of the verbal art. Do all narratives remain within the domain of literature and address the divide between aesthetics and ethics? Social sciences and the Humanities both attempt to understand human beings and relations in society, but through different means and methods and to different ends. This volume reflects on our practice of interdisciplinarity and suggests an orientation towards complementarity.
