India and SAARC

Suman Sharma (Author)
Synopsis This book is an attempt to understand the Indian policy perspective in South Asia in a larger context of the phenomenon of regional integration across the world. The Indian policy and approach to regionalism in South Asia have been outlined in the historical context of foreign policy ideas and ideology formulated by the Indian leadership before and after India’s independence and emergence as a modern nation state. There is a special emphasis on understanding the Indian policy with reference to SAARC in the post-cold war phase. India’s frustration at the slow pace of regional cooperation in South Asia and its consequent search for sub-regional and trans-regional linkages have also been outlined.
