Synopsis The Sovereign Nation State was never wholly sovereign and in most of Afro-Asia it is still preoccupied with nation building. The postwar international regionalization and the post cold war globalization have complicated the already complex global reality. Is the liberal, democratic, capitalist, free market, industrial, Western, White Christian mould, i.e. the Anglo-American conceptualization of globalization the only model available to mankind? How "universal" is this currently ascendant contender for redoing the world? There are other civilizational/cultural alternative wold views. Can we build on the Gandhian ideas and values and develop a more desirable, viable, and truly universal "philosophy of globalism"? Without such a redeeming standard of right and wrong, the current wave of capitalist globalization is likely to degenerate into an American (Western) hegemonization, which is most unacceptable in socio-cultural terms. International regionalism is fairly weak in South Asia. But, the potential is immense. The South Asian State is in a state of turmoil and transition. But, it will be around for a long while. This collection of papers addressing such crucial issues of contemporary significance is valuable to research scholars, college and university teachers as well as informed public.
