Shahrukh Rafi Khan is currently visiting associate professor of economics at the University of Utah, USA. He was executive director of the Sustainable Development policy Institute, Islamabad, for many years. He has also taught economics at the State University of New York and at Vassar College. The books edited or co-edited by him are: Higher Education and Employment Opportunities in Pakistan (UNESCO, 1988); Just Development (OUP: 1997), Fifty Years of Pakistan's Economy: Traditional Topics and Contemporary Concerns (OUP): International Trade and the Environment: Difficult Policy Choices at the Interface (Zed Press, 2003). He has written Profit and Loss Sharing: An Economic Analysis of a Islamic Financial System (OUP, 1987); Government, Communities and NGOs in Social Sector Delivery: A Study of Collective Action in Rural Drinking Water Supply (Ashgate, 1999); Do World Bank and IMF Policies Work? (Macmillan/St. Martins, 1999); and Reforming Pakistan's Political Economy (Vanguard 1999). His forthcoming books are Activating Social Capital for Rural Development and Hazardous Home Based Sub-Contracted Work: A Study of Multiple Tiered Exploitation.
