India's Security and Regional Geopolitical Imperatives

Lt Gen JS Bajwa (Author)
Synopsis

Most world leaders have, at, sometime or the other, stated that the geopolitical situation in the world is very “dangerous” and “complex”. The Author has attempted to understand as to what is making the situation “dangerous/complex”? Since it is these leaders of global powers who are responsible for it, so why is it not possible for them to simplify this prevailing complex situation. The Pax Americana is on the decline as power shifts to China and other rising states and the US grows ever more reluctant to assume global leadership and act as the global policeman. The rules-based international system is fragmenting. The relationship between US and China is one of mutual mistrust and suspicion. China seeks its place in the global power hierarchy but it does not have the wherewithal to assume this leadership as yet. The world is, thus, in a “free for all” mode. Over a period of the last five years, the Author, in his capacity as Editor of the Quarterly Magazine Indian Defence Review (IDR), has analysed these issues and penned them in the form of Editorials in the IDR and in articles in other journals, in an attempt to perceive the implications for India and where India stands in the comity of nations today. This Book is a compilation of these articles under four heads - Geopolitical Imperatives; National Security; Military Strategy and India-China Relations.
