Synopsis

The imperial footprint in education was largely limited to creating university in metropolitan cities to sub-serve colonial administration. The primary education escaped a large swathe of population, creating a vicious circle of illiteracy, poverty and over population. The RTE Act, 2009 has been a landmark legislation, as it has ensured universal access as a matter of fundamental right. In the wake of economic liberalization in India in the 1990s the private sector has been playing a dominant role in bolstering access in college education and in the primary schooling as well. However, the quality of education at the grassroots and the academic outcomes have been largely unsatisfactory. The present work takes a kaleidoscopic view of education policy and its impact with specific thrust on inclusive education. It highlights a unique model by an inimitable social entrepreneur Dr. AchyutaSamanta who has setup the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) to mentor around 27000 children from KG to PG to realize the lofty ideal of true social empowerment of the most marginalized

Dr. Mona Lisa Bal did her Doctorate in “Effective Learning in a Joyful Environment”, which culminated into publication of a book “Transformation in the Pedagogy of Education in India”, receiving wide encomiums. She intends to take her passion in primary education forward by making insightful foray into the education Sector where, she contribute articles to internationally reputed educational journals. She is also pursuing her D.Litt. on “Social Inclusion and Educational Policy: A Study of KISS Odisha”. She is presently the Chairperson of KIIT International School and heads the Early Childhood Association Chapter of Eastern India and is proactively engaged with KISS, a School for 27,000 tribal students. It is under her leadership that the School has achieved all round excellence and is ranked amongst the top ten schools of India.
