Sewa Singh (Author)
Synopsis The word information and its scope has changed with regard to its communication, exchange, sourcing and updation with the passage of time. Global information highways have evolved and with them has come the need to look at reference and information sources in a totally new light. This book deals with a vast array of international sources on reference and information in different disciplines and subject divisions. It also includes some general sources to satisfy the current information needs of the users. This manual is divided into chapters which include sources as bibliographies, catalogues, indexing and abstracting services, dictionaries, encyclopaedias supplemented by yearbooks and handbooks, directories geographical sources, biographical sources, statistical sources, manuals, progress reports, annual reviews, advances, etc. Each chapter is developed to provide familiarity with the sources, or tools of the trade, in such a way which allows the organisation of material for quick and effective retrieval of information. The main feature of this manual is that it includes sources published in countries like USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Russia, etc; and more particularly published in India. The references discussed serve as the bridge to information; while others take the users into the depth of it through the knowledge of terms, concepts, ideas etc. Their description is largely based on the personal examination of the sources against the standard code of checkpoints which is deemed quite helpful to the student community for which it is prepared. Latest information available about the sources evaluated has been covered in detail. Information about the use of technology in their publication, storing and retrieval of online databases is also given. This book will be of immense use to library and information professionals, administrators, educators and students alike in the use of library materials.
