Insect Growth Regulator and Rice Moth

Synopsis

The findings reported in this work reveal that fenoxycarb, ajuvenile hormone analogue disrupts the developmental and reproductive behaviour of rice moth, Corcira cephalonica when exposed as first, second, third and fourth instar larvae. In addition, their first instar larvae when exposed to fenoxycab showed severe alterations in the biochemical constituents of gonadial tissues as well as eggs in different crosses. Such biochemical alterations in the metabolic reserves impairs the physiological fitness of the larva that contributes to lethal action of fenxycarb. Hence, evolution of a new generation of this lepidopterous pest for the eventual establishment on stored cereals and cereal commodities can be considerably restricted.
