Arunkumar R. Kulkarni (Author)
Synopsis

The importance of a clean India is increasingly felt for boosting tourism, which is a key factor in economic development and employment generation. Economic losses arising from inadequate sanitation are not well recognized, as they are not estimated properly. In this context, this book tries to examine the linkages between tourism and sanitation conditions in Karnataka based on a comprehensive survey of 600 tourists spread across 12 selected tourist places. The present book tries to assess the sanitation situation at the selected tourist places and examines the factors that affect the provision and utilisation of sanitation facilities. The implications of inadequate sanitation on tourism including the cost of inadequate sanitation on tourism in Karnataka have been estimated. It also tries to examine the issues of willingness to pay for improved sanitation at selected tourist places. In this book an attempt is made highlight the importance of sanitation at the tourist places. Understanding the problems faced by the tourists and the extent of loss to the tourism sector would compel the policy makers and implementing agencies to improve sanitation facilities at the tourist places. The book will be helpful to policy makers, implementing agencies, activities, research scholars and people at large.
