Harsh Vardhan

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, educated in Delhi and Kanpur, completed his MBBS and MS and started his practice in Delhi. Within a few years, he was elected general secretary and president of East Delhi branch of Indian Medical Association and later the secretary & president of Delhi Medical Association. He won the election to Delhi State Assembly thrice with a handsome margin and was appointed Minister for Health, Education and Law (1993-989). As Health Minister of Delhi, he was instrumental in launching the most scientific mass campaign for eradication of polio which was a trend setter and was replicated in the rest of the country. He has been an Advisor to World Health Organisation and has been associated with a number of professional bodies in the filed of health and medicine. Dr. Harsh Vardhan's services have been recognized at national and international levels and he has been honoured with numerous national and international awards - International Award by the Director General of WHO, Polio Eradication Champion Award by Rotary Foundation, International Service Award by Lions Club. Paul Harries Fellowship of Rotary International (Twice), Excellence Award of Rotary Club and National Environmental Service Honour by world Environment Congress are few amongst many. He has been honoured by medical community, service organizations and governments more than once. Presently, he is president of Delhi State Unit of Bharatiry Janata Party.
