Synopsis
Psycho-social and economic disadvantages has been continue to be an important issue for the social scientists in the western world in the last decades. In India it has emerged a focal theme for the Educationist, as we are not able to achieve universalization of primary education after more than half century of freedom. The reasons are many but the most important factor is the poverty and the social and cultural deprivation, which is persistent after repeated efforts. Cultural deprivation is multidimensional. Development of cognitive functioning is one of its dimension which controls all other development of the children. If the thinking pattern of these children could be checked. They are directed towards attaining maximum gain from their hereditary potential and the available environment, that could also be changed as per needs of the child, then such children could be brought in a mainstream. Present book is an attempt in this direction. This book will also give a comprehensive outlook about the deprivation concept, nature of deprivation characteristic feature of deprived children. The development pattern of such children, there are efforts to provide some guidelines and strategies to cope up and compensate the effects of deprivation. There are some points for the parents, for the teachers, for the curriculum planners to promote their development and helping them to achieve a better life.
