About the authors

H.L. Chitkara

Dr. H.L. Chitkara born in 1924 in a small village Vallah near Lalian in the then tehsil Chiniot (on Chenab) in Pakistan, Dr. H.L. Chitkara grew up in a family practicing and dispensing Unani medicine. He had a consistently distinguished academic career culminating in graduation of pure and applied mathematics, together with Hons. (Advanced Course) in English literature from the prestigious Government College, Lahore. He took up a small job in a Govt. accounts office which he resigned but was obliged to take it up again in Delhi after the partition. While in service, he was fascinated by the study and practice of homeopathy. There being no recognised college, he studied it in private classes, first under the late Rai Sahib Dr. Daya Shankar Kaistha M.D. (Michigan, USA) and then late Dr. V.D. Kashyap, MBBS, a convert homeopath from Lahore. Appearing in the first examination of D.H.S. (Diploma in Homeopathic Science) held by the Delhi Board, he topped the list of successful condidates in 1966. He resigned his job and got completely involved in multifarious activities of homeopathy- academic, Journalistic, and professional organisation, along with private practice. For more than 35 years, he was successively Chief Edition of the Homeopathic Sandesh, of Journal of the Homeopathic Medical Association of India and Resident Editor for the Homeopathic Heritage. Besides homeopathy, his primary interests are the study of alternative medicine, literature and languages (English, Urdu, Persian, Hindi, Punjab, Marathi, rudiments of Arabic, French and Bengal), Indian philosophy (advaite, vedanta) yoga and occult sciences. He was 74 in 1998 and a bachelor.

Ashok Gupta

Ashok Gupta (b. 1955) did his M.A. in English Literature from Panjab University, Chandigarh. As a member of the Indian Administrative Service, he has served on several responsible positions in Punjab. This has provided him opportunities to take a close look into the problems that contemporary Indian society faces. He thinks that genesis of each and every Indian problem lies in its over-population and poverty. It is his firm view that unless these issues are addressed in a forceful, integrated and comprehensive manner, India has little hope for future.
