Synopsis "The book offers an insight into the woman's world, which has for many centuries been confined to the limits of the house and the home. It also explores the 'meanings' of house and home in Maharashtra, including its spatial and architectural expression and the traditional art of house building or wada. The book dwells on familial, spiritual and emotional relationships within these spaces including kinship relations and the terminologies used to express them. The essays have been organized into four thematic sections: house and home reconstructed; women in their parents 'homes and in their in-laws' houses; home and household; and Gods and devotees at home.
