Army Aviation in Modern Warfare

Anuradha Prakash (Author)
Synopsis

Aviation became a basic branch of the Army, April 12, 1983, and today the mission of Army aviation is to find, fix and destroy any enemy through fire and maneuver and to provide combat support and combat service support in coordinated operations as an integral member of the combined arms team fully integrated within joint operational framework. An army aviation unit is an aviation-related unit of a nation’s army, often described as an air corps. These units are generally separate from a nation’s dedicated air force, and usually comprise helicopters and light support fixed-wing aircraft. Prior to the establishment of separate national air forces, many armies had Military aviation units, which as the importance of aviation increased, were spun off into Independent services. As the separation between nation’s army and air force led to a divergence of priorities, many armies re-established their own organic aviation branches to best serve their own needs. Military aviation is the use of Military aircraft and other flying machines for the purposes of conducting or enabling aerial warfare, including national airlift (air cargo) capacity to provide logistical supply to forces stationed in a theater or along a front. Airpower includes the national means of conducting such warfare, including the intersection of transport and war craft. Military aircraft include bombers, fighters, transports, trainer aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft. The main objective of this book is to highlight the evolution, importance and current status of this means of transportation. It also aims to promote awareness about this sector, so that it can be utilized in a better way.
