Using Multiple Intelligences and Collaborative Learning in Our Classrooms

Nira Konar (Author) Ayushman Banerjee (Author)
Synopsis

The normal tendency for teachers while teaching is to follow what he or she considers to be the standard process for teaching the entire class in the same way. The underlying assumption is that ‘one size fits all.’ But today’s globalised world is a world of multiplicity. Moreover, there is requirement for faster processing of knowledge and faster outputs. To meet such challenges there is need for collaborative work too. So, students need to be taught differently, to face the challenges of the modern world. This present endeavour is primarily a follow-up of the TEQIP II funded ELT Project on “Multiple Intelligences” and “Collaborative Learning” conducted by us. It is our aim to encourage ELT practitioners, and even teachers of other subjects to bring out the inherent strengths of the learners by focusing on their “Multiple Intelligences”, and also by developing their networking skills and interpersonal skills by laying stress on “Collaborative Learning.” It would also help in the professional development of teachers who want some good teaching ideas, and through innovative methods of teaching can make teaching, as well as learning itself a joyous process.
