Agnistoma: Volumes I and II, Complete Description of the Normal form of Soma Sacrifice in the Vedic Cult

W. Caland (Author) V. Henry (Author) Ganesh Umakant Thite (Translator) Shree Daptardar-Kelkar (Translator)
Synopsis

Agnistoma is a typical Soma-yaga, forming the prakrti or model for other Soma sacrifices. Literally, the word ‘Agnistoma’ means ‘praise of Agni’ and the rite derives its name from the hymns, called stoma (a group of three rks), which are chanted in praise of Agni, towards the end of the rite. This book presents a meticulously detailed description of the Soma sacrifice in the Vedic cult. Originally written in French by two great scholars of Vedas and Vedic rituals, it is now, for the first time, offered in its English translation. Importantly, Agnistoma, in its original French version, has, for decades on, stayed as an authoritative text and acclaimed as one of the classics in Indological literature.

This book is one of the series publications of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI), which is celebrating its Centenary in 2016-2017.
