Modern Political Theory is Just That. Philosophical disciplines are defined by the questions they address. Political Theory focuses on the nature and purpose of human association. Aristotle says that human beings are [political animals and, therefore, we must co-operate with others not only to survive, but also to develop our moral and intellectual faculties in association with other people. problems of communal life have been apparent since when the society first arose. Some of these can be seen today: how to preserve order, to protect the weak from the strong, to provide for the common defense, to care for these unable to care for themselves. But more fundamental questions must also be addressed, including the overall goals communities should pursue. Because of the dependence o specific question of general ones, we might have arrived at an impasse and if we can't, them we have the problems. One of political theory as great contributions is that it attempts to provide answers. To make clear of our relationships to the state political theory is of inestimable importance. We wlll have to investigate also to some of the answers provided by the most important political theorists of the modern age. The book deals with different aspects of political theory and is in eighteen chapters on â€“natural rights, utilitarianism, liberals and conservatives, anarchists and socialists, the new liberalism and the foundations of the welfare state, justice, the claims of need and politics, Marxism, communitarianism, feminism, post colonial political theory, past influences and future development, building new men, concerning violence, the doctrine of the sword, postmodernism and poststructuralism, truth and power and contingent foundations.

Dr. S.N. Singh (b. 1941) formerly Professor in the Department of Public Administration, Lucknow University, is the Secretary of the Institute for Applied Research and Development, a non-governmental organization based at Lucknow. From 1980 to 1984 Dr. Singh was with L.B.S. National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie as Reader in Public Administration on deputation. His academic career covers a span of about four decades in which he has to his credit eight books already published. Two under publication on various important themes of social relevance. He has published more than 40 papers in the reputed journals. His experience of teaching, research and training for long years has enabled him to produce works which have been widely acclaimed. As Secretary of the IARD since 1995 he has been engaged in academic as well as social service activities. Under the banner of the Institute several activities have been organized since its inception.
