Renaissance Art: A Very Short Introduction

Geraldine A. Johnson (Author)
Synopsis

Leonardo, Durer, Holbein, Michelangelo: the names of these Renaissance artists are familiar and their masterpieces are still revered today. But why did they create such memorable works? And how did Renaissance men and women really see their art? Using vivid and engaging examples, Geraldine A. Johnson focuses on both canonical and lesser-known artists and their works from the Northern and Southern Renaissance. She provides a fascinating overview of the period and its culture, while also highlighting the variety of approaches we can use to understand Renaissance art.
