The Picturesque Khajuraho: History of its Erotic Sculptures

Ambika Prasad Divya (Author)
Synopsis Today, Khajuraho is an international spot of tourism. The main sources of attraction to tourists are the men and women idolized in various crotic and lustful poses, exhibiting the most morbid sexual indulgence akin to erotomania. There is a very pertinent question in every mind, why this sort of idolisatin based on sexual erotomania has been accommodated in these holy shrines, which are dignified as abodes of divingk sublimity, far above the worldly defilement. Is there any spiritual mystey behind it? It has largely been acknowledged that the temples have in their make up, an overwhelming influence of the tantrik cult. But how the Tantrik cult, and its approach came to be presented in these captivating scultures in khajuraho; how could it establish itself? These are the questions demanding explanations. It is also surprising, how the followers of the Tantrik cult became so predominant as enabled them to get such majestic edifices built, for the propagation of their beliefs and their doctrines . Who was that blessed Raja, under whose patronage this new type of conception incarnated into a concrete incarnated into a concrete shape? What could have been happening, during the construction of such templest? It is also surprising that the Chandel kings, who brought such marvelous edifices into existence, have left even no stone inscriptions, which might throw ample light on the history of those times . The vivid expression of most delicate emotions in stone figurers is no doubt the handiwork of some very great sculpting of some very great sculpting genius. He has virtually engraved poetry through these figures in stones. To answer all these salient questions, the outstanding novelist, poet and artist, late Shri ambika Prasad Divya had written this enchanting gem of a novel which he originally wrote in Hindi. It is the first novel, ever written on the origin of Khajuraho. The novel is the wonderfulo product of history and imagination. The story of the novel is so forceful and so illustrative of the then circumstances of Chandel period, that it reflects the History itself. No doubt, the novel is bound to receive due recognition as History in future. Mittal Publications are proud to place this unique book in the hands of their readers.
