Omkar N. Wakhlu, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Kashmir and Principal, Regional Engineering College Srinagar, is well known as a leading educator and engineering consultant in water resources. He received his engineering education from the Universities of Banaras, Roorkee, Birmingham, and Karlsruhe. As a professional engineer for more than three decades he has been a Commonwealth Scholar in England; Alexander Von Humboldt Visiting Research Professor, West Germany; Indian Delegate for ITC-UNESCO Conference in Holland; Honorary Secretary and Chairman, Institution of Engineers (India), J & K Centre; Founder President of the Indian Society for Himalayan Studies; Fellow, Institution of Engineers; Member, Institution of Civil Engineers, London; and associated with several other national and International professional societies. Dr. Wakhul is the author of many technical papers including two books on â€˜Civil Engineering Managementâ€™ and â€˜Leadership in Technical Education Institutionsâ€™ and two monographs. He is also the recepient of several awards and a Gold Medal.
