Towards Digitization
The digitization phenomenon has regulaely been written up in the popular as well academic press. The issue of digitization is important for both academic and librarians as digitization has affected both theory and practice. There are different schools of thought on digitization; some see it as the most important advancement in the topic of preservation, and others feel that while it has a place, it is not the best solution to keeping indormation safe. Despite these different attitute, digitalization, and the subsequent preservation of the digitized files, is an important topic in the world of libraries, archives, and other information centers. As this is a dynamic topic that changes often according to new information and techniques, it is one that will need to be constantly readdressed. Librarians and archivists have two jobs when it comes to digital preservation; they have to keep up it with existing practices, while still finding ways of making digitization happen. As well as this, it is important to focus on the future. anticipating what challenges could aries, and devising solutions. As with all topics surrounding the LIS field, it is important to remember not just the information that needs too be preserved, but also the needs of the information seekers Librarians, archivist, and other information professionals must continually strive to ensure that users will be able to access the preserved information. In the present book we identified altogether 26 studies that are pertinent for gaining new insights as well as those are illustrating diverse impacts of digitization on the library services. It should be noted that there are a lot of studies that are rather similar to these srudies; however are not taken into analysis due to the fact that space is limited, findings are rather similar, and there exists methodological or conceptual incoherencies. As a result learned contributions from the teachers, researchers and few professional experts are collected and neartly edited and published in this book. It is hoped that some of the brilliant ideas expressed in the studies may serve as benchmarks for digitization of Library services.
