Victimological Narratives on Gender Violence

G.S. Bajpai (Editor) Mehak Bajpai (Editor)
Synopsis

The book is concerned with various manifestations of crime against women and their victimisation. It showcases their experiences and their interface with law and practices, taking up issues that arise regarding enforcement of laws that exist. The papers discuss domestic violence including dowry attacks, trafficking of women and sexual crimes. Witchcraft is also examined as a tool of victimising women. They probe the role of the media, the police and the judiciary in securing protection of women and their response to the crimes. They stress on the need for effective criminal justice administration in the country. They scrutinise a number of legislation that exist to prevent crimes against women such as the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, and Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
