The book presents in chronological order, the lives and works of 28 scientists who have made significant contributions to the growth of astronomy. The introduction presents some glimpses of the history of astronimt. This section also highlights the most prominent contributions of the scientists included in the book. The book showcases all major event in astronomy. Some of the common concepts and terms have also been escribed. The book includes some useful infromation such as astronomical constants, the nearest and brightest stars, the names of the constellations and the planets and principal satellites for ready reference.
Subodh Mahanti (Author)
Dr. Subodh Mahanti didi his B.Sc. (Honours) from Burdwan University (1976) and M.Sc. from Banaras Hindu Univesity (BHU, 1978). He was awarded National Scolarship for studying his M.Sc. He was awarded BHU Medal for standing first in order of merit in M.Sc. He did his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (1982) from the Department of Chemistry, BHU and subsequently worked in Molecular Biology (1984-1988) at the Unit of Molecular Biology, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU. He worked in the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (CSIR). For the last 14 years he has been working in Vigyan Prasar. Besides his research papaers, he has written more than 300 popluar science articles. He has edited/authored/co-authored more than 20 books. Dr. Mahanti has been awarded FIE Foundation National Award (200), NCSTC National Award (2003), Delhi Hindi Academy Award (2006), Dr. Meghnad Saha Award (2005) and Atmaran Puraskar (2007) for his contributions in the field of science Popularisation. Dr. Mahanti is a Fellow of the NCSTC Network.
