Synopsis Scintillations contains miniature poems in the haiku spirit, characterised by the vibrant visualisation and visive vigour of the poet. Within the economy of vox, the author produces vivid vignettes of the visually charming and variegated vistas of the natural world, and gives vent to his contemplations, feelings, and thoughts. Some of these mini poems are pithy and poignant epigrams, concerning diverse shades of love, philosophy, and human nature. The element of quest creates the predominant strain through these verelets. Scintillations, with a meticulous pattern of images, conforms to the Zen form of poetry, and the subtitle –‘The Junctures of Satori’—very precisely points to the sudden and momentary enlightenments, realisations, and revelations. Through an amalgamation of the infinite and the immediate, the transcendent and the immanent, the poet brings to fore the meaning of the veiled essentials behind outward appearances. The landscape and the various objects of nature have been used in a deep symbolic way so as to arrive at the covert realities. Of nature symbolism, Patricia Prime, a poetess from New Zealand, says, "Here nature is not genteel landscape; it is a mighty universe, driven by energy and passion. It symbolises the "uncertain", the "mysterious", the "unified whole", which is God’s universe…. Gulzar, the noted film-director, lyricist and poet of India, has acclaimed the profundities of Singh’s miniature poems by saying—‘Shorter the poem longer it takes to sink. Yet, I have taken too long to sip the whole book…’. Amrita Pritam, the renowned novelist and poet, in a deep metaphorical tone describes these poems as ‘the sound of the silence like the ripples of water’.
