Encyclopaedic Dictionary of World Musical Instruments (In 2 Volumes)

P.S. Ganguly (Editor)
Synopsis The main purpose of this two volumes Encyclopaedic Dictionary of World Musical Instruments is to provide historical development, manufacturing process, and playing technique of 305 popular musical instruments of the world. Having said something about the nature of this encyclopaedia, we turn now the question of how entries are selected. The majority of included instruments have been selected on the grounds of historically importance, popular among musical players and technicians. It is hoped that by referring to this encyclopaedia, the ethno-musicologists and organologists can conveniently appraise themselves of much that is going on in the field of technical research and practices. We hope to have made a small contribution to enable all professionals, players and technicians to think more carefully about the process of manufacturing and playing techniques.
