Impact of Islamic Penal Laws on the Traditional Arab Society

A.A.K. Sherwani (Author)
Synopsis

The book examines the impact of Islamic penal laws on the traditional Arab society. Using the Holy Quran as its primary source, the book selects such verses which pertain to a number of socio-economic crimes prevalent in the pagan Arab society. It, then, carefully analyses the basic logic of these verses and draws distinction between such notions as crime and punishment as they stood in the Holy Quran. Subsequent chapters highlight the objectives of Islamic punishment, putting special emphasis on its reformative point of view. At the end the book draws some useful conclusions which reflecte on the sociological importance of the work.
