Synopsis There is a growing tendency worldwide among Islamic scholars to re-examine the existing laws applicable to Muslims and to bring them in conformity with the true Islamic 'precepts based on the original sources. The present book is a study of the judicial trend since 1950 till date. The purpose of the book is to measure from well established principles of Islamic Law. The post-Constitution decisions have followed the earlier decisions. The study, therefore, includes analysis of some of the earlier decisions as well. It is not intended to present the original ideas on the subject but an attempt has been made to collect and compile the basic material at one place to demonstrate how the Indian courts have interpreted them in their task of administration of justice. This book is divided into several chapters in light of all relevant Quranic verses and hadith with concluding remarks. This book in different chapters and in their explanation provides food for thought to those who wish to understand the judicial attitude towards application of Muslim Personal Law. The language of the present book is simple, clear and approach is analytical. This book will prove to be of an asset to the law students, lawyers; academicians, Islamic scholars, theologians and all those who are having interest in studying Islamic law throughout the global world. Tanzeem Fatima

Tanzeem Fatima, hails from a family of Ulma. She has learned first principle of Islamic law by way of family tradition. Keen interest in Islamic family law prompted her to take this subject as a specialization at LL.M. level after graduating in Law from A.M.U., Aligarh. The present work is the result of her devoted and dedicated interest in the research work. She has contributed valuable and thought provoking articles in various magazines, newspapers and in the law journals. She is actively participated in the various national, international conferences, seminars and workshops, in her initial stage of academic work. She is awardee of the scholarship of Institute of Objective Studies at Aligarh Chapter, which is Non-Governmental Organization registered under the Socio-economic Council of United Nations. At present she is writing another book concerning plight of the prostitutes and sex workers in which she is going to highlight the problems and causes of the prostitution as per data collected from Delhi and Calcutta red-light areas. The Author is also an active woman activist and social worker. She is recipient of Sir Syyed Award from Jyotiba Pule Academy, Jaipur.
