From the Preface: This checklist contains information on Dinophyceae pertaining to 11 orders, 31 families, 55 genera and 287 taxa (including 278 species, 5 varieties and 04 forms) along with their details on nomenclature and distribution. In totality, genus Ceratium has maximum number of species followed by Peridinium, Protoperidinium, Gymnodinium, Prorocentrum and Gonyaulax. Cochlodinium polykrikoides, Gonyaulax polygramma, Prorocentrum micans are red tide species.
