Ever increasing land degradation due to different factors including water erosion is creating concern to everybody all over the world. Due to wide variation in topography and land forms and land utilization pattern in western region of the country along with climatic adversaries, land management without further degradation is a big challenge. This book includes article on several issues related to management of land degradation such that its extension and severity is controlled to minimize the adverse effect and techniques to enhance the ecosystem services and productivity of already degraded lands. In western region, land degradation due to soil erosion in alluvial soils as well as hilly terrains, salinization in coastal regions, wind erosion in western Rajasthan and coastal ecosystem, etc., are more pronounced and needs attention of the researcher and policy-makers. Hence, strategies based on various erosion protection techniques, bio controls, multipurpose tree plantations, horticultural and agronomic interventions, watershed based hydrology and its understanding, etc., are some of the issues discussed in various chapters in the book which are quite relevant keeping in view the present day need. Remote sensing and GPS widely used tools for large scale planning also needs to be implemented for better execution. We feel that this book will be very useful for researchers and students for information related to the theme of management of land degradation for enhancing the productivity with special reference to degraded lands.
