Changing Narratives of Terrorism: India's Security Challenges

Indramohan Jha (Author)
Synopsis

The book presents the evolution and changing nature of terrorism Since its modern origin during the Reign of Terror following the French revolution. From being a weapon of the revolutionaries and freedom fighters, terror is now the handmaiden of separatists and fundamentalists. Quite different from Islam as a world religion of peace and equity is the Islamist ideology of terrorism spearheaded by groups like Taliban, Al Qaeda and the Islamic State. Their methods and goals are beyond terrorism. Caliphate was propagated as a path to salvation and power beyond and above what humanity can bestow. Hence, their radicalization effects remain global despite loss of the Caliphate. This new narrative of terrorism along with Pakistan's proxy war against India is duly considered. This calls for a multi- pronged strategy of good laws, good arms and a robust diplomacy to put pressure on India's hostile neighbours. There is no place for a retributive mindset, none at all for Lex Talionis: an eye for an eye would make the whole world blind.
