Acknowledged as the leading light of the Kirana Gharana, Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi is a sheer musical marvel whose singing invariably provides listeners with a divine musical experience. He learnt music under guidance of Sawai Gandharva of Kundol, a pupil of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan.

For over four decades now, he has been leading the renaissance of Indian classical music with the passion and power of a singer drenched in single pointed thirst for music. He has been honoured with numerous awards and titles such as the Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademi award amongst others.
