About the artist

Rajan and Sajan Mishra

This pentatonic scale, refined into a raga from a folk melody called Pahadi, 'of the mountains,' is named after the goddess Durga. Even so, the mood of the raga is romantic and lyrical. All the swaras are shuddha and gandhar and nishad are omitted altogether. The feeling evoked is one of happiness and elation, of 'life, joy and energy as in a dancing child.'
