Synopsis

Today, Landour is considered part of Mussoorie, but in the early days it was another hill station - in other words it was the Cantonment and Military area where Captain Young set up the Convalescent Depot. In favt, the centre of Mussoorie was in Library and Happy Valley. Over the years, these two ends converged anf joined up at kulri creating the old promenada, the mall.

However, Landour has kept its unique character - it has escaped the attention of the builders and developers. It is also a home to a number of celebrities and unusual people including a few eccentries. It was always believed that those of us who have lived above 7,000 feet are a little light in the head.

The best known landmarks are Woodstock Sister's Bazaar, Char Dukan and Lal Tibba. From here the long meandering road to Tehri opens out to Dhanolti and up to places of pilgrimage such as Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

His Tales and Legends from India, Angry River, Strange Men, Strange Places, The Blue Umbrella, A Long Walk for Bina and Hanuman to the Rescue are also available in Rupa paperback. Ruskin Bond's Children's Omnibus has been a firm favourite with young readers for several years. Ghost Stories fro the Raj, The Rupa Book of Great Animal Stories, The Rupa Book of the True Tales of Mystery and Adventure, The Rupa Book of Ruskiin Bond's Himalayan Tales, The Rupa Book of Great Suspense Stories, The Rupa Laughter Omnibus, The Rupa Book of Scary Stories and The Rupa Book of Haunted Houses are eight of his recent anthologies for Rupa.

Ganesh Saili

Ganesh has been known to cook everything from Banana Fritters to Mutton Chops.  Over a period of 30 years, he has been collecting Mussoorie and Landour memorabilia - old photographs, recipes, menu cards, coasters, place mats, bar stools and bar flies!  Much of this collection went into the making of Mussoorie & Landour - Days of Wine and Roses, which is today a collector's item.  Ganesh has also done some picture books which Ruskin uses on stormy nights to keep his door from blowing open.  When it isn't windy, he appreciates the pictures!  In revenge, Ganesh makes a castle with Ruskin's 80-odd published titles and waits for the wind to knock it down!  Presently, he is working on an out-of-focus pictorial biography of his author friend.
