Synopsis Psychology teaches are in a privileged position since teaching is in many ways just a branch of applied psychology and hence psychologists should be able to apply the principles and knowledge they posses to the advantage of their students. This does not mean, of course, that psychologists always do this. As Gale put it. The typical psychology degree on offer today falls very short of the ideal. A major problem, or cause of the problem, is that psychologists have not used psychology itself to design the degree. While teaching and learning can take many forms, the most prevalent form of contact between students is in the formal classes that are held, and of these much the most common format is the lecture. As Ramsden says: lecturing remains the pre-eminent method of teaching in most subjects.
