The Gita in the Vision and The Words of Sri Aurobindo

Sri Aurobindo (Author)
Synopsis The book presents a near complete "translation" of the Bhagavadgita in the words of Sri Aurobindo. In the course of his research, the Editor found that nearly all 700 slokas of the Gita have actually been translated,or rather, rendered by Sri Aurobindo, mostly in his "Essays On The Gita",but in other books as well.Extracting them from their various sources,he succeeded in weaving them together, respecting the order of the Gita's slokas.Reading this book,we understand better why the Yoga of the Gita is an important part of Sri Aurobindo's integral yoga, and how it leads to a vaster, all embracing vision of life and of man's spiritual evolution. This book offers to the reader not merely a translation and interpretation of this sacred Scripture, but something infinitely more precious to us the secret of the Gita as it has been seen and experienced by Sri Aurobindo.

Sri Aurobindo

Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950) was educated at St. Paul's School, London, and King's College, Cambridge. Returning to India in 1893, he began an exhaustive study of the Indian literary and spiritual traditions. In 1906 he joined the national movement and was the first to insist that its goal must be independence. In 1910 he retired to Pondicherry to devote himself to the practice of yoga. The ashram he founded in 1926 still attracts thousands of people interested in his spiritual philosophy and yoga.
