Mussoorie & Landour: Days of Wine and Roses

Ruskin Bond (Author) Ganesh Saili (Author)
Synopsis However the big push in the brewery business really began in 1876, when everyone suddenly acclaimed a much improved brew. The beer was retested and retested until the diminishing level of the barrel revealed the perfectly brewed remains of a human being. This and many others such tales make up the fascinating story of Mussoorie, most glamorous of the hill stations established during the British Raj. A Chronicle of Mussoorie, past the present, it is an entertaining historical account of the town. With Ruskin Bond’s inimitable sketches are juxtaposed A Mussoorie Miscellany, a booklet made up in equal parts of gossip, conjecture and fact, published in the 1930s. Complementing the text are photographs which succeed in capturing the essence of this charming town, representing not just its scenic magic but the people who invest Mussoorie with much of its present character.

Ganesh Saili

Ganesh has been known to cook everything from Banana Fritters to Mutton Chops.  Over a period of 30 years, he has been collecting Mussoorie and Landour memorabilia - old photographs, recipes, menu cards, coasters, place mats, bar stools and bar flies!  Much of this collection went into the making of Mussoorie & Landour - Days of Wine and Roses, which is today a collector's item.  Ganesh has also done some picture books which Ruskin uses on stormy nights to keep his door from blowing open.  When it isn't windy, he appreciates the pictures!  In revenge, Ganesh makes a castle with Ruskin's 80-odd published titles and waits for the wind to knock it down!  Presently, he is working on an out-of-focus pictorial biography of his author friend.
