Overview for Bio-diesel: Jatropha Curcas (A Promising Source)
National security, nutritional security, environmental security and energy security are inter-related and energy security at present has become a national issue. Exploration of fossil fuel, a sector of energy resources, has been increasing day by day due to mechanized life and is has threatened not only the environmental hazard but also it has opened eye for exploration of alternate sources of fuel growing as our food, feed, fibers and fire woods are grown by farmers. Since country has huge waste land and manpower so production of non edible oil through plantation of Jatropha and its transformation into bio-diesel in one of the best opinion as production of edible oil in cultivated land is insufficient to meet the requirement of present population. Countries like Germany, France and Italy are confidently depending on bio-diesel but from edible oil produced by rapeseed and sunflower. Few countries are moving towards Jatropha cultivation, however, neither a suitable variety nor its standardized agro technology is so far available. Keeping in view, this book is compiled based on literature, personal communication, experiments, papers and presentation etc. This book is lucidly written and contains 37 chapters, 33 tables and 56 figures for better understanding of readers.

Zakwan Ahmed (DOB 28 Jun 1959) has joined as Director, Filed Research laboratory (DRDO) on 01 Sep 2004. Dr. Z. Ahmed did M. Sc. (Agriculture) and Ph.D (major Plant Breeding & Minor Plant Pathology) from GBPUA &T, Pantnagar (Uttaranchal) and secured first position in university, Haridwar) in Graduation. He is serving in defence research and development Organisation since last 20 years. Dr. Z. Ahmed contributed significantly towards varietal/hybrid development in vegetables for Himalayan region. He has 50 publications to his credit in national, international journals, seminar/symposium and authored 02 books. Recently he visited China and presented research findings on Seabuvkthorn in 2nd International Seabuckthorn Association Conference.
