A Handbook of Tibetan Medicinal Plants

Tsering Dorjee Dekhang (Author)
Synopsis

This book contains the description of nearly 200 Tibetan medicinal plants, including herbs, shrubs and trees. These plants thrive in the picturesque Kangra Valley against the backdrop of majestic Dhauladhar Mountain Range in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Many of the plants the author have mentioned herein grow well in all the foothills of the Himalayas as well as in various parts of the world. The medicinal plants may vary slightly in their qualities from place to place, but their therapeutic uses are similar. This book is based mainly on the authentic Tibetan medical texts. It is considered the most outstanding contribution in the field of Tibetan materia medica. The use of plants for food, spices, medicines and for various other purposes has existed for a very long time in Tibet. In ancient times, plants were identified and documented according to the insights and field observations of great Tibetan scholars who were also often mystics. The knowledge of Tibetan medicinal plants, passed down through many generations, is lucidly presented in this book in the hope that it may bring significant benefit to amateurs, professionals and modern scientists alike.
