Overview for Vaidya's Compact English-Hindi Dictionary
"Vidya's Compact English-Hindi Dictionary" is quite aware of the fact that these days any new English-Hindi Dictionary has quite a long line of rivals and unless it has some distinct features it will never come within the focus of attention of the dictionary users. Besides, it being a true language associate of the English-Hindi Dictionary users from all walks of life, the Vidya Compact English-Hindi Dictionary also aims at being a good companion of students at schools and colleges and will certainly prove itself to be a useful household dictionary. Any lexicographical work is worth being called a 'work' only when it fulfils the linguistic requirements of its users and it depends upon the useful selection of vocabulary for inclusion in it. The learned editor of the present work has been very-very alive to this aspect and one will find the active vocabulary of modern English with appropriate equivalents in Hindi incorporated in the present book. "Vidya's Compact English-Hindi dictionary" is different from many other bilingual dictionaries in the sense that it does not give appropriate Hindi equivalents only of the English entries but also their various senses in English itself which are in living use. It includes quite a good number of technical and semi-technical terms with due, it not full, treatment. Their inclusion is sure to help users engaged in translation work. With every entry its actual pronunciation is given in Devnagari Script followed by its part-of-speech. When a work can be used as more than one part-of-speech, the change is duly shown. There are approx. 75,000 entries and this number is certainly generous keeping in view the size and type of the dictionary.
