Synopsis The conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources is of increasing importance globally. Plant conservation genetics addresses this issue by providing an extensive overview of this emerging area of science, exploring various practical strategies and the latest technology for conservation of plant biodiversity. Leading specialists and experts discuss topics ranging from the science's foundations through every aspect of plant conservation genetics. This informative text includes several ex situ (outside of natural habitat) and in situ (inside of natural habitat) techniques for plant conservation useful for researchers, educators, and students. The book is carefully referenced and includes tables and figures to enhance clarity of data.

Robert James Henry, DSc, PhD, MSc, BSc, studies plants using molecular tools and is one of the learning plant scientists in Australia. His interests include Australian flora and plants of economic or social importance. Dr. Henry work with the Commonwealth scientific and Industrial Organisation (CSIRO) on fruit and vegetable biochemistry, the Queensland department of Primary Industries (QDPI) as a cereal chemist, and the Quieensland Wheat research Institute as senior Principal Scientist. His work has included assessment of quality in barely for use in malting and brewing and research on the impact of pre-harvest sprouting on the end-use quality of wheat; the study of DNA-based methods for identification of plants; the development of molecular markers for plant breeding; and the application of DNA technology to the improvement of the quality of crops and agricultural and food products. Dr. Henry has written and edited several books on plant molecular biology and product quality and has published 200 refereed scientific papers and more than 300 national and international conference papers. He has been named one of the 100 most cited scientists in agriiclutre in international scientific literature over the past 20 years. He is a senior editor of the Plant Biotechnology Journal and a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). Dr. Henry received the Guthrie Award for contributions to cereal science in 2000, established the Australian Plant DNA Bank in 2001, and is a founder and director of Puragrain Pty Ltd.
