Synopsis This is work of three generations of Nanal tradition beginning with the visionary Vaidya Purushittam Shastri Nanal which was ably carried forward and enhanced by his son Late Vaidya Madhusudan nanal, who handed over the unflinching confidence in Ayurveda to me. It is not a text book of classical Dravya Guna Vijnana but more of a compilation of experiences of the textual references put in practice with gratifying results. It is amazing to note the depth of understanding of the sages about the structure and function of heart, the various pathological conditions arising as separate heart disease and heart disease arising at various stages of pathogenesis of other diseases as either a prodromal sign, sign/ symptom proper or complication or a sign indicating terminality of the conditions. The variety of single herbs, compound formulations is astounding and it would be a lesson in humanity for the aspiring candidates. The list of conditions enumerated in the Ayurvedic knowledge base; in which heart is adversely affected is much more comprehensive than the contemporary risk factors.
